About Sardegna (Sardinia):

Sardegna (Sardinia) is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is small enough to be classified as an island, but big enough to be a country within itself. It lies about 120 miles west of the Italian peninsula and is within close proximity to the French island of Corsica and North Africa.

Sardegna’s coastline is noted as one of Europe’s most spectacular. Its emerald waters are abundant with fish and shellfish, the rugged mountains are full of mysterious, secret caves, and the land is home to large flocks of sheep that feed on fragrant wild herbs, producing some of the best Pecorino cheese in the world. Nestled into the innumerable olive groves are some of the oldest archeological remains, called Nuraghes, dating back to 1700BC.

The people of Sardegna are considered to be one of the few populations in the world with the most purest genetic make up and the most centenarians in the world. Although Sardinians are considered to be Italian and the common language spoken is Italian, Sardinians speak their own dialect called Sardo, which is a language in itself and is incomprehensible to all other Italians.
